The Nanjemoy Volunteer Fire Department serves an area that has no municipal water source (hydrants) in our first due response area. We rely on tankers with portable folding water tanks on them as a water source for fire fighting. The tanker will pull up, place the folding tank, dump its load of water, and proceed to a fill site. The pumper will draft from that water supply. This water, along with the water carried by the pumper, will supply the fire attack. Then the tanker can be freed quickly to go for more water. The water fill sites in our area consist of creeks, the Potomac River, and ponds that have dry hydrants. The pumper and tankers can resupply their tanks and return to the fire in a timely manner. |
