Overturned Cement Truck - Ironsides Rd. (Rt425) near Baptist Church Rd.
On 1-10-07 at approx. 1215 hrs. units from Nanjemoy, Ironsides and the Paramedic were alerted for a cement truck overturned with possible injuries. Upon arrival, the Duty Officer from Nanjemoy (Captain Kelly Crouse) and the Paramedic unit reported the overturned truck that had left the roadway with a single occupant (driver) who was already out of the vehicle, however, had numerous injuries both externally and internally. A helicopter (Trooper 2) was requested for the operator and flown to PGGH priority 2, the Landing Zone was set up and located by E-41 at the Friendship Landing Park. The overturned truck was loaded with cement and during the rollover separated the cement barrel from the truck, subsequently causing the barrel to roll into a creek, however did not spill any material due to sealing itself. The Charles County HAZ MAT Team was requested to the scene to assess the barrel and any other possible hazards that may have needed mitigated. The HAZ MAT Team proceeded to assist units on the scene and off load the Diesel Fuel from the truck and secure the vehicle from any other hazards.
